Corona Virus Update

October 9th 2020

This afternoon the Chancellor Rishi Sunak has advised that employees who work for UK firms forced to shut by law because of coronavirus restrictions will get two-thirds of their wages paid for by the government.

This will be classified an expansion of the Job Support Scheme, coming in to force on the 1 November when the current Furlough scheme ends. The Chancellor has advised that this additional funding will be available for six months.

The update from the UK Government due on Monday is expected to see businesses, and restaurants and social venues in the highest case load areas mandated to close.

The Government have advised that all support packages will be reviewed in January. It is worth noting that until the 1st of November any business that is mandated to close should continue to use the current furlough scheme.
